As long ago as 177 BC, Pula was an outpost of the Roman Empire at its amphitheater dates back to the first century. You will be able to visit its lower levels, where both gladiators and wild animals were housed until they were ready to do battle.
You will find other historical treasures in every major city of Eastern Europe, for Warsaw and Kraków in Poland to Budapest in Hungary. A marvelous way to spend your Eastern European honeymoon would be to focus on the sites along the Danube Bend, which flows past the Hungarian towns of Szentendre, Visegrad, and Esztergom. If you are honeymooning between April and the end of October, you can book passage on a boat excursion in Budapest, and enjoy the marvelous scenery and hilltop castles as you glide along the Danube to the town of your choice.

Where are the best places to visit in Eastern Europe?
Thinking of going there with my wife in August, we have been on two vacations to Europe and loved them, but this would be our first in Eastern Europe.
I love Tallinn, Estonia (old town, townhouse, windy cobbled streets, with many interesting shops, Russian Orthodox churches) and as Vilnius, Lithuania (architecture and good people), but not enjoy Riga, Latvia, very much. Maybe it was because of the daily rainfall, when I was there. But since I was there in the autumn (November), the circus was in town, and the show reminded me Barnum and Bailey circus-type, unlike what we have today, for example, the Cirque de Soliel. Poland is definitely worthwhile, Warsaw – Old Town and interesting architecture, Krakow – the market old town, cobbled streets, the Cathedral of salt / spa / ex-mine Austwich and Berkanau – history.
